What Are The Goals of Private Pay Therapy in California?
Whole Mother Therapy’s mission is to make good online therapy affordable for everyone, which is why we offer a range of fees. We are also working to create a dedicated fund to subsidize maternal mental health care for BIPOC womxn, femmes experiencing financial hardship, and other underserved communities.
Payment Policy
Payment is processed 24 hours before each session. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards (except American Express). A 3% processing fee will be added to all credit card transactions.
Cancellation Policy
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your scheduled session, you are responsible for the full fee.
How Does Private Pay Therapy and Our Progressive Fee Structure Work?
The progressive fee structure—$175-$300—is designed to accommodate clients with different financial and life circumstances.
The average fee in Los Angeles for a 50-minute individual session is $250. Lots of private pay therapists charge more. While Whole Mother Therapy’s therapists are certainly worth this, we feel that using a fee range encourages a more collaborative investment from our clients. We recognize that each of them has a unique set of life parameters. We also feel strongly that, regardless of what the market dictates, we don’t want to charge too high fees. We don’t want to contribute to deserving clients not receiving access to healing.
What Does This Look Like?
So for example, a client who’s a homeowner in a household with two substantive incomes would place themselves at the high end of the scale. A client who is single with children and rents their living space would land at the low end. A client with some of these elements but not others would likely land at the average.
Essentially, you as the client are encouraged to pay what both fits your budget and feels fair to the value you receive from the therapeutic relationship.
Why Private Pay Therapy in California Is Higher for Some Versus Others?
Those who pay at the higher end of the scale effectively help subsidize those clients who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford therapy even at the lower end, namely those from traditionally underserved populations such as the BIPOC and queer communities.
Whole Mother Therapy’s Mission
It’s essential to Whole Mother Therapy that our therapists make a sustainable living wage that matches the investments they’ve made in graduate-level learning, continuing education, certifications, and the emotional commitment this work requires. Private pay therapy in California is challenging and rewarding for both client and therapist. We’re all part of the same community, and healing is in all of our best interests. What you choose to pay is an investment not just in yourself but in the healing of the community at large.
Are You Only Private Pay or Do You Accept Insurance?
Whole Mother Therapy does not accept insurance, and we do not interact with insurance companies on clients’ behalf. If you have a PPO, at your request we will provide a standard super bill at the end of each month with a diagnostic code that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You will be reimbursed only after you have met your out-of-pocket deductible. It is your responsibility to call your insurance provider to find out if it provides out-of-network benefits and what your deductible is. Be advised that while insurers often accept the super bill we provide, Anthem does not.
Please Note:
Please be aware that if you do submit a claim to your insurance provider, your diagnosis will become a permanent part of your medical record. Also, confidentiality is affected once insurance providers are involved, since they have a right to your records. We can answer any questions you may have about this.
How Long Will Treatment Last?
Treatment is dependent on the individual. Some people are fine within a 3-6 month period of time. Others have a lot to work through and need long-term support. I encourage you not to put a timeline on your healing and remember that therapy is a collaborative process. Therefore, you and your online therapist in California can talk through what is and is not working to help you heal and move forward.
